About Stone-Coated Steel Roofing

Lightweight!
Comparing manufacturers’ specifications, at 140 pounds per square (1.4 lbs per sq ft), a San-gobuild roof weighs less than half (40%) of the average composition or wood shake roof. So-called "lightweight" fiber cement roofs are more than four times heavier than San-gobuild. Added weight means more stress on framing and trusses, which contributes to settling and develops into cracks on walls and ceilings. To limit the chances of the roof collapsing, all national building codes require additional support for any roofing systems that exceeds 600 pounds per square (6 lbs per sq. ft.).
Fire!
Because it is made out of steel, San-gobuild panels are incombustible and safe from exposure to airborne burning ciders and fireworks. The patented interlocking fastening system prevents the tiles and shakes from lifting and allowing blowing embers to ignite the roof deck. Where Class A roofs are mandated, San-gobuild should be installed with specified underlayments, as tested ASTM E-108, UBC-15-2 and U.L. 790 Class A fire tests.
Ice & Snow!
San-gobuild roofs have excellent compatibility with snow and ice. The stone/steel panels do not absorb water and readily shed snow. Freeze/thaw cycles do not cause the tiles or shakes to raise and loosen because of the interlocking fastening system.
Hail!
Comparative independent tests, conducted at Terra Lab engineers International, demonstrated that San-gobuild withstood simulated hailstones as large as 3 inches in diameter. All of the other tested materials (lightweight concrete, concrete tile, clay tile, composition asphalt shingles, and medium cedar shakes), suffered "severe damage" under the same conditions.
Wind!
San-gobuild’s interlocking panel and batten-mounting system offers extraordinary resistance to wind uplift. This is why San-gobuild complete backs up its claims with a separate wind warranty. Other manufacturers may refer to wind-driven rain tests but they remain silent with regard to warranty protection. They categorize "wind" as an "Act of God" and do not cover any damage that it causes.
Weathering!
San-gobuild Tile and Shake will not split, break, crack, curl, warp, or absorb water. Stone granules provide protection against prolonged sunshine or rain. Fiber concrete with cellulose fillers may absorb water that leads to early failure. Concrete tiles face unevenly under the elements, while composition roofs decompose over time and develop algae stains on the surface. Only San-gobuild offers a lifetime limited weatherproof warranty to the homeowner.
Earthquake!
San-gobuild roof panels add structural strength to the roof. Other roofing materials rely upon the underlying deck for structural integrity. Additionally, the superior lightweight features provide safety and reduce the threat of roof collapse. The death of several thousand people during the Kobe, Japan earthquake was attributed to the collapse of buildings with heavy roof tiles. In its survey of roofs after the Northridge, California earthquake in 1994, the McMullen Company found only minor damage to 2 of the 15 homes covered by stone-coated steel roofs in the quake area. In contrast, more than half of the concrete and clay tile roofs were observed to have significant damage.
Environment!
Steel is 100% recyclable. There is little waste and it can be recycled an infinite number of times without degradation. San-gobuild Stone-coated steel panels are designed to be installed directly over existing roofs, which eliminates tearing off the old roof and further burdening over-capacity landfills.
Resale!
Real estate professionals consider San-gobuild a premium roof that adds value to a home. The durable appearance, long life, and fire resistance features are of major importance to the prospective homebuyer, not to mention the fully transferable warranty.

Twelve Reasons to Chose Stone-Coated Steel Roofing

  1. Stone-coated steel roofing has grown in popularity due to its flexibility, visual appeal, color, value and performance.
  2. Stone-coated steel roofing offers low life-cycle costs and durability.
  3. Stone-coated steel roofing will not rot, crack, split, wrap, creep, curl, chip, peel, or erode.
  4. Stone-coated steel roofing lets you say good-bye to peeling and tattered asphalt shingles, broken tiles, and waterlogged wood shakes.
  5. Stone-coated steel roofing has superior snow, water and airborne debris shedding capabilities.
  6. Stone-coated steel roofing is lightweight and offers structural savings for both new and re-roof applications.
  7. Stone-coated steel roofing can be installed over existing roofing (disposal of existing roofing can be difficult and costly, as well as hazardous to our environment).
  8. Stone-coated steel roofing is non-combustible: steel will not burn and virtually no maintenance is required.
  9. Stone-coated steel roofing is ecologically sound; you save on frequent and costly re-roofing.
  10. Stone-coated steel roofing can be UL90-rated and stand up to gale force winds, the industry’s highest standard.
  11. Stone-coated steel offers the designer look along with function, beauty, and long-term economy.
  12. All of the Stone-Coated steel products are U.L rated as a Class 4 Hail Impact rating. Most insurance companies will discount the homeowner’s insurance rates for this classification.
